High Arch Foot

High Arch Foot

High Arch Foot (Pes Cavus)

High arch foot (pes cavus) is a condition where the foot has an unusually high medial longitudinal arch. It can cause excessive weight-bearing on the ball and heel of the foot leading to pain, calluses, clawing of toes, and instability.

Causes

  • Congenital or inherited foot structure
  • Neuromuscular conditions (e.g., Charcot-Marie-Tooth)
  • Untreated injuries that alter foot mechanics

Symptoms & Problems

  • Pain at ball of foot and heel
  • Frequent ankle sprains and instability
  • Corns, calluses and claw toes

Treatment

Conservative measures include cushioned footwear, shock-absorbing insoles, and custom orthotics to redistribute pressure. Physiotherapy can help improve balance and strengthen supporting muscles. In severe or progressive cases, surgical correction may be considered.

At Delhi Foot, we evaluate the underlying cause and provide customised orthotics, bracing or surgical options when needed.
