Arthroscopy of Foot and Ankle

Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy has revolutionized foot and ankle surgery by providing minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic solutions. Using small cameras and specialized instruments through tiny incisions, surgeons can directly visualize joint pathology while minimizing surgical trauma.

Ankle arthroscopy is the most established procedure, addressing conditions like osteochondral lesions, loose bodies, anterior impingement, and synovial disorders through anterior and posterolateral portals. Posterior ankle arthroscopy effectively treats posterior impingement syndrome and os trigonum removal, particularly beneficial for dancers and athletes.

Subtalar arthroscopy, though technically challenging due to complex anatomy, manages post-traumatic arthritis, impingement, and loose bodies following calcaneal fractures. Small joint arthroscopy of the first metatarsophalangeal joint treats hallux rigidus through arthroscopic cheilectomy.
